Okay, so we’ve heard the phrase “back to its roots” before in regards to the Sonic franchise more times than I care to remember. But this time, it sounds like the real deal.
Sega’s new game, code-name Project Needlemouse, is a 2D, high-speed, HD, classic Sonic platformer. Yeah, it’s about time Sega decided to listen to us. Not much is known about the game as of now, except that it will be available sometime in 2010. For which consoles? Not too sure. But, if it is in HD, a Wii version might not exist, unless Sega ports it sans HD.
The teaser trailer doesn’t show any gameplay, but it does give us various clues that this new game is seriously going back to the franchise’s roots. I smiled a little at the classic “Sega” intro and the Sonic emblem at the end of the video. Let’s hope this game rejuvenates the Sonic franchise.
